Now that the Presidential Inauguration is over and we popped champagne for that Barack Campaign, that doesn’t necessarily mean that socializing in the District has been halted. In fact with a people friendly president in the White House, DC cocktail parties may just replace those famous NYC Wall Street parties that have become all but scarce. President Obama and the First Lady Michelle are the only former city dwellers that have taken up residence in the White House therefore movie nights, dinner parties and maybe even a basketball pick up game may become common place. However, getting entree into one of these exclusive events may not be so easy,as you will still have to get through the Gate Keeper, Desiree’ Rogers. Rogers, a longtime friend of the Obama’s and Chicago Businesswoman was named as the Official White House Social Secretary. This was also historical as she is the first African American to hold this position. Rogers , has a reputation for her beauty, poise and sophisticated sense of style. In a 2000 profile with Chicago Magazine a social acquaintance said:
“She chooses the best designers,” says one regular on the social scene, “but both she and Linda [Rice] go for designers who have a flamboyant flair. These are not button-down Anne Klein kinds of people.”
Rogers was recently profiled by Vogue.com in which she talks about her new role in the Obama administration.
Rogers, was previously profiled by Vogue in 2004 showcasing her chic sense of style while she was an executive for Peoples Energy Company.
With a social secretary in the White House as fashionable as Desiree’ we will certainly be placing her on our style watch list right along with our fabulous first lady.
